Miikka Viljanen has joined Logent as Site Manager of the company’s operations in Rauma. With a strong background in production leadership and industrial development, he brings valuable expertise to one of Logent’s key industrial logistics units in Finland.

According to Miikka, the importance of intralogistics often becomes visible only when something goes wrong, and this perspective strongly influences how he views logistics in his new role.

Holding a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering and Management, Miikka joins Logent from IONCOR, where he served as Production Manager at the battery factory in Uusikaupunki, overseeing production operations and three separate product lines. Prior to that, he worked as a Development Engineer at Pilkington Automotive Finland.

He believes his experience in the automotive industry will support the continued development of Logent’s operations.

“The automotive industry is known for its exceptionally high standards when it comes to quality and operational control. I believe the experience and mindset I gained there will help us further develop our operations and take performance to the next level over time.”

In Rauma, Miikka is responsible for one of Logent’s operational units, which provides logistics services in a demanding industrial environment. The unit also manages two warehouse facilities located near the shipyard, where materials are stored and pre-assembled before use. Alongside operational responsibility, his role includes customer relationship management, commercial development and people leadership.

“Throughout my career, I have worked extensively with manufacturing operations. What attracted me to this role was the opportunity to broaden my perspective and gain a deeper understanding of how logistics supports the entire industrial value chain.”

Continuous improvement as part of everyday operations

The autumn season has started at a fast pace in Rauma. Ongoing and upcoming projects at the shipyard are creating activity across Logent’s operations, while several internal development initiatives are being launched at the same time.

“There are many exciting projects underway at the Rauma shipyard, and we are also actively developing our own operations. We are introducing the Group’s 5S programme and further strengthening our daily management practices. These are areas I have worked extensively with in previous roles.”

During his first months, Miikka’s focus is on developing a deep understanding of the unit’s operations while supporting employees throughout the ongoing improvement initiatives.

“I’m looking forward to seeing what we can accomplish together over the coming months. Our goal is to make daily operations even smoother for both our employees and our customers.”

Bringing an industrial perspective to logistics

According to Miikka, the connection between production and logistics is often closer than many people realise, and its importance continues to grow.

“Working in production, I saw first-hand how even small disruptions in material flows or deliveries can affect the entire operation. Logistics is a critical part of the production chain, and its performance has a direct impact on the customer’s business. That is why it is essential that picking, deliveries and all supporting services are carried out accurately and on time.”

In his new position, he sees an opportunity to combine operational leadership with business development.

“My previous roles have focused primarily on production. In this role, I also have the opportunity to contribute to commercial development and customer collaboration. That makes the position particularly interesting and gives me the chance to continue developing professionally.”

A warm welcome confirmed his first impression

Although Miikka was already familiar with Logent, his first weeks with the company have been even more positive than he expected.

“Having grown up in Rauma, I have followed Logent’s development for many years. What surprised me most was the warm welcome I received. From day one, I felt genuinely welcomed and valued as part of the team.”

He sees the Rauma operation as an important contributor to Logent’s business in Finland.

“Thanks to the strong order backlog in the maritime industry, our unit is currently one of the largest in Finland. Its success plays an important role in Logent’s overall performance. I believe that through open collaboration, continuous improvement and committed employees, we can make the operation even stronger in the years ahead.”
